Maternal Home Improved in Matanzas Province
Monday, April 9, 2018

Havana.- The town of Jovellanos, in the western Cuban province of Matanzas, has improved the facilities for pregnant women by reopening a maternal home.

The center has 23 beds and will improve the results in Mother-Child Program (PAMI), in addition to renewing the structure of the building.

With this, experts said, premature births are expected to decrease, as well as the number of children born with low weight and the infant mortality rate.

The region reports an average of 580 to 600 pregnant women every year, hence the need to dedicate funds to the repair maternal homes.

In 2017, constructive actions in the province benefited ten hospitals, 11 polyclinics, three hygiene centers, three dental clinics and an electro-medicine workshop.
