Cuba Dominate Weightlifting Event

Havana.- Cuba dominated the actions in the 37th edition of the Manuel Suarez in Memoriam International Weightlifting Tournament, held in the eastern part of the country.

The Cuban weightlifters won 39 titles, 24 silver medals and 14 bronze medals in the elders' event, while the junior competitors in the under-17 category won 10 first places.

Among the men, Cuba occupied the top position with 20 gold, 10 silver and three bronze medals, followed by Peru (2-1-0), Guatemala (1-8-0), El Salvador (1-2-0), Honduras (0-0-7) and the Dominican Republic (0-0-5).

Meanwhile, the women won 19 titles, 14 silver medals and 11 bronze medals, followed by the Dominican Republic (3-3-0), Puerto Rico (2-4-0), Guatemala (0-3-9) and Honduras (0-0-1).

The Cubans will take part in the Pan-American Championships in the Dominican Republic, after which the teams will be defined to compete in the Pan-American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia.
