Havana.- The Cuban volleyball player Miguel David Gutiérrez has excelled in Europe, where he plays with the Italian team Ravenna.
It should be mentioned that Gutiérrez was instrumental in the 3-2 victory against Benfica Portugal, in the game that led the Italian club to the semifinals of the European Clubs' Challenge Cup.
In that game, the Cuban player replaced Paul Buchegger, from Austria, and scored 11 points, nine of them in attack, one with his service and another one in the blocking.
With its triumph, Ravenna was included among the first four teams in the Challenge Cup, where it participated after finishing fifth in the Italian League last year.
Gutiérrez is one of seven Cuban volleyball players who signed this season with professional clubs in Argentina and Italy. He played a key role in Cuba's victory over Puerto Rico in the NORCECA World Qualifier last year.
