Monday, March 5, 2018

Havana.- Grand Master Lázaro Bruzón, one of Cuba's best players, will be present at the Spring Chess Classic tournament in the United States.

The event will bring together 10 players with an Elo score over 2,600 points, including Alexander Onischuk (2,681) and Samuel Shankland (2,668).

The list of participants also includes India's Surya Ganguly (2,650), Poland's Dariusz Swiercz (2,654), France's Edouard Romain, and Varuzhan Hakobyan, Yarolslav Zherebukh and Jeffery Xiong (United States) and Alexander Ipatov (Turkey).

A year ago Bruzón finished fifth in a qualification event, which was led by Hakobyan with six of nine possible points, and ahead of Zherebukh (5.5) and Ipatov (4.5)

On that occasion, he scored 4.5 points and only lost to Sandro Mareco, although drew several times.
