Havana.- Cuba's best judokas will participate in the continental championship in Costa Rica, where they will seek to qualify for the Pan-American Games in Lima in 2019.
The event, experts said, is the first of four competitions that grant points for the ranking, which will determine the qualifiers for the event in Peru.
The tournament will give 500 points in a system that includes the Pan-American Cup of Tegucigalpa, also in 2018, and the continental championship and the regional cup in 2019.
For the Pan-American Games, nine places will be granted in each of all 14 divisions, seven for men and seven for women, plus one in each category for the host country.
In Toronto-2015, Cuba won three titles, three silver medals and eight bronze medals
