Some 396 Athletes Have Qualified for Regional Sports Event
Monday, March 5, 2018

Havana.- Cuba has earned 396 slots to compete in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) this year.

According to experts, with these places (distributed among 218 men and 178 women), Cuba will compete in 219 contests in 24 sports.

In addition, that number is expected to increase because in a short term, qualifying events will take place in taekwondo, boxing, karate, wrestling, racquetball and synchronized swimming.

The diving tournament is pending, while in sports like swimming, athletics, tennis and triathlon, places will be granted according to the athlete's ranking and performances.

Cuban athletes are expected to maintain their leadership by nations that they achieved in Panama-1970, although strong opposition is expected from the Colombians.
