Cuban Capital to Host International Triathlon Championships
Monday, February 12, 2018

Havana.- The Cuban capital will host the 4th Ibero-American Triathlon Championships, to be attended by athletes a score of nations.

Cuba will be represented by Michel Gonzalez, a middle-distance champion in the previous edition, and Leslie Amat, a winner in the Pan-American Cup in 2017.

Athletes will compete in the medium-distance (a 1.9-kilometer swim, 90-km cycling and 21-km race) and in the elite sprint, which consists of a 750-meter swim, 20-km cycling and 5-km race.

The contest will also assess the training of several candidates to win medals in the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, this year.

Cuba's shortlisted delegation to that regional event is made up of nine athletes, including five men, but only three men and three women will participate, according to the organizing committee.
