Cuba and Spain Evaluate Creation of Wholesale Market
Monday, February 5, 2018

Havana.- Cuba and Spain signed a collaboration agreement on trade, with a view to evaluating the installation on the island of a wholesale food market.

The project involves the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN) of Cuba and the Spanish public company Mercasa, which is in charge of carrying out the study for the development of Central de Abasto (MercaHabana).

The objective is to assess the implementation in Cuba of a wholesale food market that allows meeting the demands for dry, frozen and fresh products, fruits and vegetables.

Likewise, this project foresees the concurrence of national and international producers in the market to commercialize their products.

Sponsored by Mercasa in conjunction with MINCIN, the study will last eight months and, if approved, it would be part of the economy's plan in 2019.
