Havana.- Cuban transportation by train will benefit from a huge investment program that includes the incorporation of a large batch of equipment.
Several Russian-made locomotives were added to the system, while the arrival this year of 40 motor cars of similar origin is expected.
These units will be used for the transportation of passengers and will favor the service in the provinces of Ciego de Avila, Camagüey and Las Tunas.
The rehabilitation project of railways, and the repair and start-up of locomotive workshops of Camagüey and Luyanó is planned until 2028.
Likewise, between 2016 and 2017, 588 railway wagons were purchased, mainly for the transportation of cargo, and by 2018, another 203 such cars are expected to arrive.
