Meliá Designs Expansion Program |

Madrid.- The group Meliá Hotels International will implement a short-term expansion program that includes the acquisition of 71 establishments and 17,000 rooms.
The Spanish chain currently runs 97,000 rooms in 385 hotels, and plans to have more than 100,000 rooms by 2020.
Last year, Meliá signed agreements to acquire three dozen hotels, most of which will start up operations in 2018 and 2019.
According to the firm's plans, in less than a decade, 50 percent of Meliá Hotels International's portfolio will consist of establishments own by the chain, while the rest will be administered by the group.
The company plans to open nine hotels, totaling 3,000 rooms, in Cuba, as well as the ME Dubai and the Meliá Shanghai Parkside, among others.
