Experts Evaluate Nickel Fields in Eastern Cuba
Monday, January 22, 2018

Havana.- Cuban experts are weighing the possibility of exploiting nickel fields in the San Felipe Plateau, in eastern Camagüey province.

That field covers some 110 square kilometers and contains high concentrations of that mineral in areas that have been studied by experts from several Cuban institutions.

The experts are considering the option of developing new technologies that will allow extracting other minerals of interest like iron and cobalt.

Moreover, the development of mining will lead to the creation of jobs and better use of major natural resources of the country.

The San Felipe Plateau holds one of the natural resources with more potential in Cuba, which has lateritic minerals that characterize the eastern regions of Holguin and Camagüey, as well as Cuba's westernmost province, Pinar del Rio.
