Tobacco Harvest in Western Cuba Goes as Planned
Monday, January 22, 2018

Havana.- The agricultural sector in Cuba's westernmost province, Pinar del Río, has reported 95 percent of the land planted with tobacco during the ongoing harvest.

According to experts, production is expected to exceed 20,000 tons of tobacco leaves, more than during the previous harvest.

The objective is to plant 18,700 hectares of tobacco and focus later on the crops to prevent diseases.

On this occasion, 13 varieties of tobacco have been planted, especially of the so-called Havana 92, which covers approximately 50 percent of the province's lands.

Pinar del Río, which is considered the land of the world's best tobacco, supplies 65 percent of the total production of leaves in Cuba.
