Sculpture to Honor Jose Marti to Be Unveiled Soon
Monday, January 22, 2018

Havana.- The cultural heritage of the Cuban capital will incorporate a sculpture of Jose Marti, which is a replica of the first equestrian statue of the Apostle.

The statue, which weighs 8.5 tons and is made of bronze, arrived in Cuba from the United States in early October 2017 and was erected at the 13 de Marzo Park, in Old Havana, on a pedestal of black granite.

According to experts, it is similar to the original artwork, which is in the Central Park in New York.

The statue was created by the sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington, who also created statues of Joan of Arc, for which France granted her the order of Knight of the Legion of Honor, and of El Cid Campeador.

The statue was erected in Havana by the companies Restaura and Puerto Carena, and Department of Investments of the Office of the City Historian, under the advisory of the Museum of Bronx in New York.
