Casa de las Américas Wins International Award |

Havana.- This month, the Havana-based cultural institution Casa de las Américas will receive the Jaime Torres Bodet Award, granted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in conjunction with the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
UNESCO officials pointed out that the award is an acknowledgement of the institution's work in the field of knowledge.
In addition, the jury considered the work done by Casa de las Américas for decades as a cultural institution in favor of creators from Latin America and the Caribbean in the field of arts.
The UNESCO recalled that the Jaime Torres Bodet Award aims to promote initiatives that can contribute to the development, promotion and consolidation of humankind's values.
The acknowledgement is inspired in the life and work of one of the founding members of the UNESCO and its director general between 1948 and 1952, who was also a poet, a novelist and an essayist from Mexico.
