More U.S. Tourists Visited Cuba 2017
Monday, January 15, 2018

Havana.- In 2017, Cuba was visited by 619,523 tourists from the United States under the 12 licenses approved by Washington to allow American citizens to travel to the Caribbean island.

That number accounts for a 217.4-percent increase in contrast to 2016, in addition to the arrivals of 453,905 Cubans who reside in the United States.

It should be said that in January 2018, the Department of State modified its recommendations on travels to Cuba for U.S. citizens by suggesting that Americans should reconsider visiting the island.

In September 2017, the Department of State had suggested Americans not to travel to Cuba at all.

Canada continued to be Cuba's major tourist-sending market, while France, Italy, Russia, Spain, Argentina and Brazil reported major increases in the number of holidaymakers who visited the Caribbean island last year.
