Cuban Agricultural Sector Boosts Buffalo Raising
Monday, January 15, 2018

Havana.- The agricultural sector in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin is promoting the genetic development of buffalos to create new food sources.

Efforts are being made in a zone where there are some 550 specimens of that species, and the plan is to increase that number to 1,000 over the next few years.

Experts pointed out that breed buffalos receive a special treatment that takes into consideration the compliance with zoo-technical standards.

Furthermore, specific controls are made, because buffalos are raised according to lines, taking into account their history and preventing blood-related animals from mating in order to maintain the quality of the race.

The development of buffalo raising will increase production of meat and milk, as that species reports the highest yields in both indicators.
