Emblematic Cuban University Celebrates 290th Anniversary |

Havana.- The University of Havana, in the Cuban capital, is among the best educational centers in Latin America and it is celebrating its 290th anniversary this year.
Cuba's oldest educational institution is made up of 16 faculties, four institutes and 18 research centers, and maintains relations with more than 80 related centers worldwide.
Founded on January 5, 1728 by Dominican friars from the Convent of Saint John of Letran, the university was initially called Royal and Pontifical University of Saint Geronimo of Havana.
As an important element, the university graduated prominent Cubans like Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Ignacio Agramonte, Antonio Guiteras and Juan Marinello.
Its staff has a high scientific level and consists of 2,000 professors, 1,600 of whom work full time and nearly 50 percent of them are PhDs.
