Horse Therapy Benefits Children in Cuba
Monday, January 8, 2018

Havana.- Horse therapy has gained ground in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, where it has been provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts.

The initiative is part of a community project called Pursuing a Dream to rehabilitate children suffering from Down syndrome, speech problems, intellectual disabilities and autism.

During the therapy, patients benefit from the multidimensional movements of horses, which stimulate the children's muscles and joints.

That way, children develop their attention and mobility, and improve their balance and spatial orientation.

In psychomotor terms, horse therapy improves balance, coordination, reflexes, motor planning, muscle relaxation and the general physical state of patients.
