Cuba's Infant Mortality Rate Drops in 2017 |

Havana.- Cuban healthcare authorities noted that in 2017, the Caribbean island reported the lowest infant mortality rate in the country's history.
According to sources from the sector, Cuba's infant mortality rate last year was four deaths per every 1,000 live births, with a total of 465 deaths in the entire country.
Authorities pointed out that 114,980 births were reported nationwide last year.
The lowest rates (under the national average) were reported in the provinces of Sancti Spiritus (2.0), Pinar del Río (2.1), Camagüey (3.0), Holguín (3.3), Artemisa (3.7) and Ciego de Avila (3.8).
Above the average rate were Matanzas (5.7), Mayabeque (5.3), Guantanamo (4.7), Isla de la Juventud (4.7) Granma (4.7), Villa Clara (4.6), Cienfuegos (4.4), Havana (4.4), Las Tunas (4.2) and Santiago de Cuba (4.0).
In addition, the neonatal mortality rate (children under 28 days of age) decreased from 2.4 to 2.1 per every 1,000 live births last year.
