Better Care of Senior Citizens in Eastern Cuba
Monday, January 1, 2018

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Holguin has a dozen medical institutions to provide care to people over 60 years of age.

The province has reported an aging rate of more than 17 percent, thus the importance of creating specialized centers like elderly clubs and senior citizen's homes.

Generally, elderly people have access to such medical services as cardiology, geriatrics and physical rehabilitation, among other specialties, and participate in sports and cultural events.

Moreover, a project to stimulate the senior people's short- and long-term memory and develop their daily life will be implemented to favor their autonomy.

Community events are organized at the community level at elderly and computer clubs to promote the practice of physical exercises and improve their culture.
