Camagüey Reports Large Bee Honey Production in 2017
Monday, January 1, 2018

Havana.- Bee honey production in eastern Camagüey province is expected to total 490 tons in 2017, despite the damage caused by Hurricane Irma.

Officials from the agricultural sector pointed out that nearly 30 percent of the planned production was affected by the cyclone.

The honey-making flora in the municipalities of Nuevitas, Sierra de Cubitas, Esmeralda and Minas was the most affected by the hurricane, so actions were taken to increase production.

Some 536 beehives were recovered and relocated in zone with better flowering, and water supply was improved to prevent further damage to the quality of honey.

At present, apiculturists are working on eight genetic centers to raise queen bees in several municipalities and three other centers will be inaugurated in 2018.
