Contributions to Health Care in Cienfuegos
Monday, December 4, 2017

Havana.- The Blood Bank in central Cienfuegos province stands out for its contribution of that vital element to the region's healthcare system.

According to experts, the blood bank supplies frozen concentrated platelets and fresh plasma, which are widely used in the province's main healthcare centers.

In addition, the pharmaceutical industry receives plasma and concentrated leucocytes that go to the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB).

It should be said that those components are used to make several medications like the vaccine against tetanus, for which anti-tetanic plasma processed in Cienfuegos is used.

In 2017, Cuba has reported more than 13,500 blood donations and more than 3,000 liters of plasma to treat patients suffering from hematological and other diseases.
