Three Cuban Chess Players at World Junior Championships

Havana.- Cuba will be represented by three players (two men and one woman) at the World Junior Chess Championships in Tarvisi, Italy.

Cuban chess officials pointed out that International Master (IM) Karla July Fernandez, Central American runner-up in the under-20 category, will represent the Caribbean island in the women's competition.

Fernandez has an Elo score of 1,986 points and is in the 59th place in the ranking.

In the men's tournament, FIDE Master Jorge Marcos Gómez, who has an Elo score of 2,426 points, and IM Abel Fabián López (2,385 points) will represent Cuba.

According to organizers, 89 women from 48 national federations will compete in the tournament, as well as 159 men from 63 countries, who will play 11 rounds on a Swiss system.
