Las Tunas Increases Salt Production
Monday, October 23, 2017

Havana.- The Puerto Padre salt mine, on the north coast of eastern Las Tunas province, reestablished production of that item after the facilities damaged by Hurricane Irma were restored.

Company executives pointed out that the hurricane's winds damaged the electrical and telephone services, as well as the roofs of the storehouses and the workshops.

In addition, only 3 percent of 69 tons of salt that was ready to be processed was lost.

At present, daily production amounts to nearly 400 tons for human and animal consumption, and the electrochemical industry in Villa Clara province.

Salt production in Puerto Padre responds to studies that confirm that climatic conditions exist in the region to extract, process and supply that product to the domestic market.
