Archeological Attractions in Chorro de Maíta
Monday, October 16, 2017

Havana.- The aboriginal cemetery in Chorro de Maíta, in eastern Cuba, offers several attractions for national and foreign archeology enthusiasts.

Considered the largest aboriginal graveyard in the Caribbean, it also provides evidence on the presence of ceramist-agricultural Indians in that Cuban region.

The museum shows fundamental aspects of the everyday life of Cuban aboriginal people, their instruments and religious ceremonies.

As part of the project, a Taino village containing 38 life-size human sculptures was built on the site.

The exhibition also includes jewelry that belonged to Mexican Indians, including a golden pearl necklace and a bird head carved in gold.

Other artifacts on display are ceramic containers and decorative and domestic objects, among others.
