Prevention of Leptospirosis in Holguin |

Havana.- The healthcare system in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin is taking preventive actions against leptospirosis.
Experts in zoonosis pointed out that some 3,500 persons have been vaccinated against the disease this year in the municipalities of Banes, Moa and Mayarí, where most suspected cases have been reported.
They added that confirmed leptospirosis cases receive medical treatment with penicillin, amoxicillin and doxycycline, and are followed up by physicians.
The disease show several symptoms that are similar to those from other non-related diseases like influenza, meningitis, hepatitis, dengue or hemorrhagic viral fevers.
In cases of fever and jaundice, people must assume the presence of leptospirosis and visit the doctor immediately to prevent complications.
