Gypsum Mine in Eastern Cuba Rehabilitated |

Havana.- The gypsum mine in Punta Alegre, in northern Ciego de Avila province, is ready to resume production after power supply is reestablished.
The largest gypsum mine in the country has a reserve of 3,200 tons of that mineral, enough to meet the demand from four cement factories for 15 days.
So far, the plant has supplied 32 tons of ground gypsum to the cement factory in Cienfuegos, the 26 de Julio plant in Camagüey, and that in Siguaney, in Sancti Spiritus, as well as the José Mercerón factory, in Santiago de Cuba.
Moreover, the mine is expected to produce a surplus over the 50,000-ton plan to meet the increased demand created by Hurricane Irma.
The factory also supplies fired gypsum for ceilings, interiors, decorations and for the Ministry of Public Health.
