Cuba Prioritizes Prevention of Respiratory Infections
Monday, September 18, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's health system is taking priority actions to prevent respiratory infections, especially in persons with a high risk to suffer them.

In the case of natural disasters like hurricanes, people take shelter in closed spaces where ventilation is insufficient, thus favoring the transmission of diseases.

On the other hand, there are seasons in which respiratory viruses spread more frequently, especially in areas where there are children.

The respiratory tract of the youngest children is still immature, so they generally lack defense against viruses, which are more harmful if the babies are not under exclusive breastfeeding.

In addition, respiratory problems worsen if parents are smokers, because cigarette smoke is highly irritating for the children's respiratory tract.
