Rainfalls Benefit Dams in Central and Eastern Cuba |

Havana.- Rainfalls in mid-September have benefited the dams in central and eastern Cuba, which were seriously affected by drought.
The rains brought by Hurricane Irma allowed all 242 dams managed by the National Institute of Hydric Resources to increase their total volume to 5.55 billion cubic meters of water.
That volume accounts for 61 percent of their total capacity and an increase of 1.9 billion cubic meters, compared to early September.
The Zaza dam, the largest in Cuba, received 666.3 million cubic meters of water in three days, increasing its reserve to 825 million cubic meters or 81 percent of its capacity.
Furthermore, the level of the rivers Jatibonico, Tuinucú, el Cayajaná, Yayabo, Banao, Higuanojo, Caracusey, Unimazo and Táyaba rose sharply.
