Hurricane Irma Hits Saint Martin's Airport
Monday, September 11, 2017

Marigot.- The Princess Juliana International Airport, on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, was seriously damaged by Hurricane Irma.

According to preliminary reports, winds of 195 kilometers per hour destroyed the perimeter security fences and damaged the terminal.

After the passage of the category-five storm, huge rocks crashed on planes and the telescopic walkways collapsed due to the heavy rains and winds.

It should be said that the Princess Juliana International Airport is considered the third largest airport in the Caribbean in terms of passengers handled annually, after the Luis Muñoz Marin Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Punta Cana International Airport in the Dominican Republic.

Before the hurricane, the airport suspended all operations on Tuesday, when the impact of the powerful storm was imminent.
