New Cuban Medication against Skin Cancer
Monday, August 14, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's healthcare system has incorporated a new medication called Heberferon, the only one of its kind in the world to treat skin basal cell carcinoma.

Over the past six months, more than 400 Cuban patients have benefited from that medication, produced by the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB).

The formula combines the actions of two interferons to inhibit the growth of the tumor and eliminate or reduce the lesions, even those that are complex, multiple and in an advanced stage.

According to experts, the medication reduces the need to mutilate sections of the skin in complicated areas like the head when the carcinoma is near vital orifices.

In addition, it has an impact not only around the lesion, but also at the organic level, thus benefiting patients with multiple carcinomatosis and extended lesions.
