Cuba's Sugar Sector Improves Infrastructure
Monday, August 14, 2017

Havana.- Cuba's sugar industry is focusing on guaranteeing the repair of the mills that will operate in the 2017-2018 harvest.

Actions will benefit 54 sugarcane mills that will be operational during the upcoming harvest and the first factories to complete the repairs will start milling sugarcane in November.

Therefore, specialized brigades from Empresa de Servicios Técnicos Industriales (ZETI) and from each of the factories are doing the repair works, including diagnoses, dismantling equipment, cleaning and preservation to resolve difficulties faced during the harvest that concluded in June.

In the upcoming harvest, 98 percent of the cutting will be mechanized, so manual cutting has been practically eliminated, as well as the irrigation of herbicides and planting, in order to increase productivity.
