Cuba Strengthens Prevention to Improve Health
Monday, June 26, 2017

Havana.- Preventive actions are gaining ground in Cuba, due to the need to guarantee the control over the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits several diseases.

Experts from the Ministry of Public Health recalled that during the summer, conditions exist for an increase in cases of dengue fever, zika and chikungunya.

In light of that situation, work has been intensified to inspect homes, fumigate houses, work places, streets and areas of risk.

It is worth mentioning that since 2016, the number of municipalities of high risk, according to healthcare authorities, decreased from nearly 60 to 33.

Clinical-epidemiological surveillance is mainly based on primary healthcare centers and cleaning actions in areas that are vulnerable due to sanitary and environmental conditions.
