Natural Values in Eastern Cuba
Monday, May 29, 2017

Havana.- The eastern Cuban province of Holguin stands out for its natural attractions, including a botanical gardens with more than 900 species of plants.

Located in the Mayabe Valley, it has some 50 hectares in exploitation with exponents such as the sausage tree, from Southern Africa, and the blue flamboyant (Jacaranda caucana pittier), from Central America.

The long list of species also includes the dwarf cactus, and fruit and timber trees, among other representatives of the local flora.

The botanical gardens have areas to grow bamboo and orchids, where those species are reproduced with the objective of generalizing their decorative use.

The center holds a selection of dead and dry plants native to Cuba that are of great importance to research the distribution, location and state of preservation of the species.
