Cuba Develops Fruit Plantations
Monday, March 20, 2017

Havana.- The Cuban agricultural sector encourages the development of tropical fruit plantations, in order to respond to the growing demand of the market.

In this direction, a specialized forum will meet in Ciego de Avila producers from all the provinces of the island to exchange experiences in the matter.

During the last three years, the venue of the event produced on average more than 50,000 tons of fruit per year, with prospects of continuing to grow.

Likewise, in just eight years, 9,453 hectares of mango, guava, pineapple, coconut, papaya, citrus and others were sown, to be placed among the leading nations.

The goal is to reach some 17,000 hectares in 2020, in a strategy supported by the assembly of 18 small factories and an industrial complex that produce preserves.
