Monday, February 27, 2017

Havana.- Cuban Yoanka González, Olympic runner-up in Cycling in Beijing-2008, retired from active sport after 25 years of activity.

Being the first cyclist to win an Olympic medal, González is considered to be among the most important exponents of that sport in the Caribbean island.

Among her achievements highlight several medals in the Pan American, Central American and Caribbean Games.

González was also world champion in the scratch modality in Melborune-2004 edition and won the bronze award in the points test in the World Championship in Sttutgart-2003.

In the retirement ceremony she was granted the sporting honors diploma, along with other recognitions by the authorities in Villa Clara, her natal province.
