Cuban Paralympic Athlete Nominated for Laureus Awards

Havana.- Cuban Omara Durand, a Paralympian multi-champion from Rio de Janeiro-2016, was nominated for the Laureus Awards in the category of best disabled athlete in the world.

Durand won gold medals in the 100, 200 and 400 meters of the T12 (visual impairment) races during the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in 2016.

The runner won with just 15 years of age the 100 and 200 meters in the world championship for blind and visually weak that took place in Sao Paulo in 2007.

In addition, in the Para-Pan-American Games in Guadalajara-2011 became the first woman of the Paralympic sport that went down of 12 seconds in 100 meters, with 11.99 seconds.

The competition agenda for 2017 includes attendance at the world championship in London, and preparation has already begun for the event.
