Cuba Promotes AIDS Response Actions
Monday, December 5, 2016

Havana.- The Cuban health system designs actions to respond to HIV / AIDS, with a view to ensuring adequate care for patients and promoting prevention.

According to sources from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 30 years ago, when the first case was detected in the West Indies, up to the end of November, more than 26,000 people were positive for HIV infection.

The specialists indicated that in the island there is a tendency to stabilize in the amount of new infections, which in the last triennium are around 2,000 annually.

For the treatment of patients on the island, five types of antiretroviral drugs are produced, which prevent damage to the immune system and decrease the incidence of diseases.

In 2015, Cuba achieved World Health Organization certification for the eradication of vertical transmission of HIV / Aids and syphilis from the mother to the baby.
