Cuban Health Faces Aging Population
Monday, October 24, 2016

Havana.- Aging population stands as a major challenge for the Cuban health system, responsible for ensuring care for elderly people.

To meet that goal are enabled 10,782 Family Doctor and Nurse consulting rooms and 812 basic working groups, together with 451 polyclinics.

Also, in secondary care there are available 49 geriatric services with over a thousand beds, and 273 specialists in Gerontology and Geriatrics.

19.3 percent of the Cuban population is 60 years or more, with nearly 2.1 million inhabitants and in 2030 it will be 30 percent in that group.

Population aging is accompanied by a new stage of action, which includes changes in care needs and more time and dedication of health teams for the elderly.
