Cuban Agriculture Promotes Cigar Crop

Havana.- Cuban agricultural sector drives the cultivation of cigar, with aspirations to get in the 2016-2017 season up to 29,900 tons of this category.

To do so, the planting of 28,000 hectares is expected, of which about 18,000 will be in the western province of Pinar del Rio, the main producer of the island.

The management is in charge of Tabacuba group, composed of 45 companies, including 15 agricultural, six agro-industrial, nine of twisted cigar (handmade or Premium) and four of cigarettes.

In addition, six agencies for marketing and services, three of mixed character, a trading company and a research institute with three stations are added.

Some 96 factories engaged in the production of hand-made cigars, 46 of them in charge of preparing for export, along with a plant for the machine production of cigar.
