Havana.- The city of San Carlos and San Severino de Matanzas, capital of the western province of the same name, stands out for its financial contribution at the 323 anniversary of its foundation.
Started in 1693, the city stands in the execution of a Master Plan aimed at preserving the architecture of the place and the most emblematic sites.
By 2017 it is expected the beginning of several works of restoration, with emphasis on the Plaza de La Vigia, Middle Street and Parque de La Libertad, in addition to the courthouse.
According to experts, Matanzas is one of the few cities in Latin America showing almost unchanged its original urban layout, included among the wonders of the civil architecture of the island.
Specialists also work in the last phase of extensive restoration of capital structures such as centennial Sauto Theater (National Monument).
