Rum Museum in Eastern Cuba

Havana.- The province of Santiago de Cuba, in the east of the island, has the option of a Cuban Rum Museum as a permanent stage to publicize the traditions in this area.

The center, founded in 1996, aims to convey to visitors the history of rum in its aptitude as heritage and cultural element of the island.

The institution has six rooms and begins with a tour around sugar cane as the main raw material for the production of rum.

The production process of the drink, the aging and old equipment used in the production of that item of international renown is also disclosed.

The exhibition is also made up with the History Room, where the origins of light rum, its creation by Don Facundo Bacardi in 1862, and factories that were there on developed are collected.
