Coffee Plantations Growth in Central Cuba
Monday, September 19, 2016

Havana.- The province of Villa Clara, in the central area of the island, added new land to coffee production as part of the strategy for the use of fertile land.

According to experts, in the 2016-2017 harvest season, they are working on an area of 517.7 hectares, while by 2020 the area under grain should reach 1,700 hectares.

The increase in sown areas is accompanied by other activities such as the establishment of nurseries with seeds of high genetic quality in the 13 entities responsible for this work in the mountains.

As part of this program, 30 hectares with irrigation systems were fitted with power irrigation, which should be reflected in high yields and good quality.

For crops, 16 different varieties of coffee trees are used, considered appropriate in the Guamuhaya mountain range, taking into account the characteristics of the soil.
