Agriculture to Rescue Cuban Citrus
Monday, August 22, 2016

Havana.- Cuban agricultural sector works for the rescue of the citrus groves, as part of a national strategy to promote exports and prevent foreign purchases.

In Ciego de Avila, from 2010 to date, the planting of 700 hectares of citrus by Agroindustrial Ceballos materialized.

The planting plan is done with the application of agro-ecology, using organic materials such as sugar cane liquor, composting, permaculture and others.

As a way to partly amortize the costs of investment in planting and cultivation of citrus, the new plantations grow interspersed with guava trees.

Citrus fruits have always been characteristic of Ciego de Avila and in 2001 it reached a production of 87,201 tons, the highest figure in its history.
