Cuban Lung Cancer Vaccine gains Recognition

Havana.- Cuban Office of Industrial Property (CIPO) granted recognition to the Vaxira vaccine for the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer.

The drug, developed by the Center of Molecular Immunology, received the 2015 Award for Creativity and Technological Innovation, in the category of inventions.

In this regard, it is significant that the vaccine was registered in Cuba since 2012 after receiving approval from the Center for State Control of Drugs and Medical Devices.

Experts said that it shows a favorable impact on quality of life and increased survival time of vaccinated patients.

The drug has a patent issued in 17 countries and clinical trials are currently ran to assess its potential use in breast and ovarian cancers.
