Monday, November 23, 2015

Havana.- Seven athletes and two Cuban coaches will join the Central America and the Caribbean Hall of Fame, in recognition of their contribution to the development of the discipline.

The initiative responds to the celebration of 110 years of the presence of the sport in the country.

Olympic champions Ivan Pedroso and Anier Garcia (long jump with hurdles and javelin, respectively) as well as Osleidys Menendez, also winner of the summer events, will be added to the prestigious list.

Other names includes the Olympic silver medalist in the 110 hurdles and riders Ivan Garcia, Luis A. Perez and Jose A. Cesar Rionda, members of the 4x100m relay team that won bronze in Sydney 2000.

To conclude the Cuban representation in the Hall of Fame appears Irolán Hechevarría, coach of sprinters such as Silvio Leonard and Leandro Peñalver, and Amarilis Hernandez, trainer of Norberto Tellez, world silver medalist.
