Growing Production of Phosphate in Western Cuba
Monday, October 5, 2015

Havana.- Cuba's industry has increased production of phosphate rock in Union de Reyes, in western Matanzas province, the only active field its kind in the country.

The actions respond to the increase in production of mineral fertilizers to improve sports fields and agricultural areas, among other uses.

The new products are important due to their organic composition, which do not represent a health risk, and have demonstrated their effectiveness in facilities such as Varadero Golf Club.

The components include zeolite, worm compost and phosphate rock extracted from that field, which resulted from the accumulation of remains of marine vertebrates.

This year, more than 130 tones of phosphate were sold in Artemisa province to improve farmland, and mineral fertilizers will be supplied soon to several cooperatives.
