New Artifacts at Cuban Sugar Museum
Monday, September 28, 2015

Havana.- The José Smith Comas Sugar Museum, in the western Cuban province of Matanzas, will add to its collection the steam locomotive 1401, which is currently in Artemisa province.

The locomotive 1401, which was declared Heritage of the Cuban Nation, will be taken to the museum.

According to experts, the locomotive 1401 was built in 1908 and due to the integrity of its preservation it will join the motor collection used by the museum to provide tours to visitors.

After the incorporation of the locomotive, which was original allocated to the Pablo de la Torriente Brau sugar factory, in western Pinar del Río province, the Sugar Museum in Matanzas will have 29 such machines.

As part of the work done by the National Council of Cultural Heritage to rescue, relocate and protect steams locomotives, 227 such machines have been sent to institutions that will take good care of them.
