Monday, August 24, 2015

Havana.- HeberNasvac, a new Cuban vaccine against chronic hepatitis B, is undergoing clinical trials in eight Asian territories.

The vaccine, developed at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB), is being tested in collaboration with the French company Abivax.

The clinical trials involve about 230 patients with participation of 50 clinical sites.

So far, the research has been approved by regulating authorities from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand.

The chronic hepatic disease caused by the hepatitis B virus is one of the main causes of liver cancer, hepatic cirrhosis and other complications.
