|
Monday, July 27, 2015
Havana.- Yarisley Silva, Cuba's best pole vaulter, won the title at the Pan-American Games in Toronto, Canada.
The Cuban athlete defended the title she had won in the previous continental games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2011.
On this occasion, Silva set a Pan-American record 4.85 meters at the stadium of the University of York, and unsuccessfully tried to jump over 4.91 meters.
In the competition, she failed once to jump 4.75 meters and twice to jump 4.85 meters, but she succeeded the last time.
That way, she defeated Brazilian pole vaulter Fabiana Murer, gold medalist at the World Championship in 2011, and US Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Surh, who won the bronze medal with 4.60 meters.
